James White’s Fort, built in 1786, was turned into a frightful place for Hearthscares, a Halloween fundraiser for the Fort. The first-time event raised funds for urgent preservation needs and showcased the structure and grounds as a historic structure, an educational and tourism site, and a venue for special events. Costumed guests placed bids in a silent auction, enjoyed a buffet prepared by Rothchild’s, and danced to the music of the Chillbillies. During a band break, a Michael Jackson lookalike showed up with a group of zombies who performed “Thriller” for the enthusiastic crowd.
